Bellevue claims NSAA Men’s Golf title


BELLEVUE, Neb. -- All four scoring golfers from Bellevue University shot 76-or-better as the Bruins finished the day with a team score of 297 (+9) to claim a 22-stroke victory over second place Valley City State University in the 2019 North Star Athletic Association Men's Golf Championship.

Bellevue entered the day with a seven-stroke lead over second place Valley City State while Viterbo and Waldorf entered the day just one stroke behind the Vikings.

The Bruins' team score of 297 was the lowest in this year's tournament.

With the victory, Bellevue claims the North Star's automatic bid to the 2019 NAIA National Tournament to be held from May 21-24 at Las Sendas Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.

Bellevue's Andre Becerra, who won the individual NSAA title, was named the NSAA Golfer of the Year, as voted on by the league's coaches. All five Bellevue University golfers earned first team all-NSAA honors.

Becerra began play on Tuesday tied for first with Eric Olson (Viterbo) and a shot ahead of both Casey Julson (Valley City) and Jake Schroeckenthaler (Viterbo). After carding an even-par 72 Becerra secured a five-stroke victory (149-154) over Schroeckenthaler.
