No. 3 Bellevue sweeps Rocky Mountain in Frontier action
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The third-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team earned its second sweep of the week, defeating Rocky Mountain College 25-8, 25-11, 25-18 in Frontier Conference play Friday evening at the BU Fieldhouse.
With the victory, Bellevue improved to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in league play, while Rocky Mountain dropped to 0-8 overall and 0-4 in the FC.
Senior Kealy Kiviniemi led the Bruins with six kills on just seven swings (.857). Eve Fountain added five kills on .444 hitting and a match-high 10 digs, while Payton Dzingle tallied six kills on a .750 clip. A'Lailah Perry and Sophia McIntyre each contributed five kills, and Chloe Cloud added four more.
Victoria Runyan paced the setting effort with 13 assists and two service aces. Mila Aiwohi dished out 10 assists, added four digs, and recorded an ace. Bellevue hit .350 as a team while holding the Battlin' Bears to a -.056 hitting percentage.
Set 1: Bellevue 25, Rocky Mountain 8
Bellevue set the tone early, opening the match on a 6-1 run and never looked back in a dominant first-set win. Fountain and Kiviniemi led the way with multiple early kills, including back-to-back finishes from Fountain to stretch the lead to 11-6.
Following a Rocky timeout, the Bruins allowed just two more points, closing the frame on a 14-2 run. Fountain added three more kills during that stretch, while Kiviniemi tacked on two. The Bruins capitalized on six attack errors by the Battlin' Bears and sealed the set on Kiviniemi's fourth kill.
Set 2: Bellevue 25, Rocky Mountain 11
After falling behind 2-0, Bellevue responded with eight straight points, highlighted by kills from Savanna Berger, Bentlee Kollbaum, and Kiviniemi, along with blocks from Berger and Rowyn Scheer. Rocky Mountain struggled during the stretch, committing multiple attack errors that allowed the Bruins to build a 10-3 lead.
Bellevue maintained control the rest of the set. A service ace by Zoie Roghair and kills from Fountain and McIntyre extended the lead to 18-8. Kiviniemi and Berger combined for a block to secure the final point and give Bellevue a 2-0 advantage in the match.
Set 3: Bellevue 25, Rocky Mountain 18
The Bruins overcame an early 8-4 deficit, sparked by a kill from Dzingle and an ace by Jamison Badje. Bellevue used a 7-2 run to take a 15-11 lead, with Perry contributing three kills during the stretch.
Rocky closed within three points at 21-18 before Bellevue closed out the match on a 4-0 run. McIntyre notched a kill, and Runyan served back-to-back aces—including match point—to seal the straight-set victory.
