NSAA Release

La CROSSE, Wis. -- Four Bruins were honored Thursday with all-North Star Athletic Association honors announced in conjunction with the 2017 NSAA Tournament Banquet hosted by Viterbo University.

Earning first-team honors were sophomore setter Maddie Squiers and junior rightside hitter Shayla Scanlan. Second team honorees included senior middles Mikaylah Gillespie and Hope Lambrecht. In addition, senior defensive specialist Gracie Myers was Bellevue's recipient of the Champions of Character Award.

Conference regular-season champion and nationally No. 2-ranked Viterbo dominated the awards with six first-team selections, including NSAA Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year Natalie Geidel, NSAA Setter of the Year Amelia Grahn, and NSAA Newcomer of the Year Maya Roberts.

Squiers, who won her second-straight first team honor, leads the Bruins with 1,407 assists, 60 service aces, and 15 double-doubles. She is second on the team with 355 digs. Her 1,407 assists rank second nationally, while her 60 service aces are the most in the NSAA. She has earned NSAA Setter of the Week honors four times this season.

Scanlan, who is a three-time first-team all-NSAA selection, leads BU with 421 kills and a .295 hitting percentage while ranking second with 84 total blocks. She ranks second in the NSAA with 3.2 kills per set.

A first-team all-NSAA honoree in 2016, Gillespie leads BU with 107 total blocks and is second with 297 kills and a .251 attack percentage.

Lambrecht earned second-team accolades last season as well. She is fourth on this year's squad with 230 kills and third with 82 total blocks.

The No. 3-seeded Bruins (26-10, 11-5 NSAA) will begin play in the NSAA Tournament on Friday with a 10 a.m. matchup against No. 6-seeded Dakota State University. The winner of that match will face No. 2 Jamestown in a semifinal matchup at 5 p.m. Friday.
