OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University volleyball team ended the spring off-season on a high note, playing some of the top teams in the region, while participating at the University of Nebraska at Omaha Spring Tournament Saturday (April 16) at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
The Bruins defeated two NCAA Division II opponents, split with the host school UNO, and split with NAIA National Tournament qualifier Doane College.
The Bruins started the tournament by sweeping Missouri Western 25-18, 25-19. Bellevue then split a pair of games with Doane, falling 25-21 before rebounding with a 25-18 win in the second game. The Bruins led 14-13 in the deciding game before time expired.
After a short break, Bellevue swept Northwest Missouri State, 25-23, 25-23. The Bruins concluded the day by playing the host school Nebraska-Omaha. After dropping the opening set 25-20, BU answered with a 25-19 victory in the final set of the tournament.
"The coaching staff thoroughly enjoyed the progression that this team made in one month," said head coach Trish Siedlik. "Each individual made a change in their game and it made the group even better. We are already looking forward to the fall!"
