Bruin volleyball signs transfer Katie Kuntz
May 26, 2010
Bruin head volleyball coach Trish Siedlik announced today the signing of 6-1 rightside hitter Katie Kuntz (Wenatchee, Wash.) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Bellevue University beginning in the fall of 2010.
Kuntz, the daughter of Pam and Dean Peer and Eric Kuntz, played one year of basketball at Montana State-Northern University and prior to that competed in basketball at Wenatchee Community College. She will have two years of eligibility in volleyball.
Kuntz played in 26 of 31 games last season at MSU-Northern, averaging 1.9 points and 1.7 rebounds per game while helping the Skylights to a 16-15 overall record.
"We are excited to see what Katie has to offer after playing basketball in college for three years," said Siedlik. "She is athletic enough to make that transition, however, it will be a matter of getting used to the speed of the game."
She averaged seven points and five rebounds for Wenatchee Valley Community College during the 2008-09 season and was a two-year starting forward.
A three-sport standout at Wenatchee High School, Kuntz earned eight varsity letters and was a first team all-conference basketball selection. She was prepped in volleyball by head coach Lisa Johnson.
"Katie is going to add depth to our right side as a left-handed attacker," added Siedlik. "What drew us to her was her personality and desire to get back to playing volleyball. Katie missed volleyball and wanted to join a strong program."
Kuntz joins eight earlier signees: Alannah VanGorder (5-11, MB, Canon City, Colo./Canon City HS), Annie Benson (5-10, OH, Springfield, Neb./Springfield-Platteview HS), Courtney Hendricks (5-10, MB/RS, Omaha, Neb./Millard West HS), Ashley Wurdeman (5-11, MB/OH, Columbus, Neb./Central CC/Lakeview HS), Meghan Evans (5-4, DS, Omaha, Neb./BurkeHS), Andrea Johnson (5-7, S/DS, Omaha, Neb./Burke HS), Sydney DeBoer (5-11, MB, Seward, Neb./Seward HS) and Kirstine Linebaugh (5-4, L/DS, Lincoln, Neb./Pius X HS).
The Bruins finished the 2009 season with a 29-10 overall record, a perfect 14-0 MCAC mark and their third-straight appearance in the NAIA Volleyball National Championship. Bellevue was ranked No. 14 in the final NAIA national poll.
