BELLEVUE, Neb. — The Bellevue University women's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the 2025 season on Saturday afternoon, falling 5-1 to Oklahoma City University at the Renner Dennis Outdoor Sports Complex. With the loss, the Bruins fall to 5-1-2 on the year, while the Stars remain unbeaten at 6-0-1.
Oklahoma City struck first in the 11th minute when Yami Ponce broke free behind the defense and finished past goalkeeper Abril Cura. The Stars added to their lead early in the second half as Chloi Thurman scored twice, including a one-time strike in the 57th minute that pushed the margin to 3-0. Ponce tallied her second of the day in the 70th minute, and Ali Daugherty closed the scoring in the 89th minute after intercepting a clearance attempt.
Bellevue found its lone goal in the 82nd minute when senior Sam Mausbach netted her second of the season, finishing a cross from Beth Cowd to make it 4-1 at the time. Cura played the full 90 minutes in goal and faced a relentless Oklahoma City attack that placed all five of its shots on target. The Bruins generated 12 shots, three of which were on frame, while the Stars recorded 14 shots and converted five. BU played the final minutes a player down after Morgan Miller was sent off in the 86th minute.
