Bruins sign Lincoln SW standout Avila to 2023 class
Katrina Avila (Lincoln, Neb.) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall.
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University head women's soccer coach Tom White announced today the signing of Katrina Avila (Lincoln, Neb.) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall.
Avila is the daughter of Cynthia and Lino Avila. Katrina played at Lincoln Southwest High School and helped the Silver Hawks reach the State Final in her senior season. She contributed three goals and four assists.
Avila's club career with DA 402 produced a lot of success on the field, winning the State Cup six times and qualifying each year for Regionals.
Katrina's club success was under the guidance of former Bruin Kenan Sahuric.
Coach White on Katrina Avila:
"Kat will be an exciting addition to the squad who will make an immediate impact. She will come in and raise our level even more with her technical ability and tactical understanding. With the majority of the squad returning, we had to make sure we brought someone in the mix who is going to complement our style and a player we think could gel quickly with the other Bruins on and off the field. Also, a big thanks to Kenan on making this happen."
Avila joins earlier signees Alaina Meads (Glenwood, Iowa), Lauren Chetty (Aldershot, England), Thea Engen (Lillehammer, Norway), Alessia Ricciardi (Milan, Italy), Anouchka Berthelot (Morne a l'eau, Guadeloupe), Beverley Wemhoff (Montgomery, Texas), Dru Henry (Omaha, Neb.), Maria Serrano (Quito, Ecuador), and Alyssa Brandes (Bellevue, Neb.) in the Bruins' 2023 recruiting class.
Bellevue concluded the 2022 season with a 13-4-2 overall record and won both the CAC Regular-Season and Tournament Championships. The Bruins made their second-straight trip to the NAIA National Tournament, and seventh overall, putting up a spirited performance against #2-ranked Marian University.
