Bruins sign Ross out of Cheyenne East
Two-time state champion signs with Bellevue
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's soccer program, under six-time MCAC Coach of the Year Andy Nicolarsen, announced today the signing of Micayla Ross (Cheyenne, Wyo.) to a letter of intent for the 2015 season. Ross becomes the fifth signee in the 2015 recruiting class, joining Helen Schweiger (Freiburg, Germany), Whitney Pratt (Platteview, Neb.) Karina Alvarez (Salinas, Calif.) and Brianna Richards (Papillion, Neb.).
Ross if the daughter of Jonathan and Caroline and comes to Bellevue from Cheyenne, Wyo. where she is currently a senior at Cheyenne East High School. Ross is a four-year varsity starter at Cheyenne East under Coach Jim Gardner with her senior season just getting underway. She is a team captain and has helped lead Cheyenne East to a pair of state championships through her first three seasons.
Ross earned first team All-Conference and second team All-State recognition for her efforts on the pitch. In addition to high school soccer, she is also a member of the Fort Collins Colorado Storm FC club team, playing for Coach Jason Oslgard.
According to coach Nicolarsen, "Micayla is a tenacious player with the ability to play into the attack or help bolster the defense. Her abilities on both sides of the ball make her a great addition. She is one of those players that opposing coaches do not like going against. We are happy to have her with us this fall."
Bellevue finished the 2014 season with an overall record of 16-2-0, including a perfect 6-0-0 mark in MCAC play on their way to claiming both the MCAC regular season and tournament championships.
The team advanced to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round for the fifth straight season.
