Gomez leads BU to sixth-place finish at Kyle Blaser Invite
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Playing through cold weather that reduced the tournament to 36 holes, Isabella Gomez paced the Bellevue University women's golf team to a sixth-place finish following Tuesday's final round of the Kyle Blaser Invitational.
The tournament was played at the 6,053-yard, par-72 Gaillardia Country Club.
The Bruins carded a second-round score of 349 (+61) to finish in sixth place at 100-over par (676) in the highly competitive eight-team field. No. 16 Texas Wesleyan claimed the team title, holding onto its first-round lead to finish at 50-over par (626), securing a 16-stroke victory over host No. 19 Oklahoma City (642, +66). Ottawa (Ariz.) (644, +68) and Science & Arts (Okla.) (651, +75), both receiving votes in the latest NAIA coaches' poll, rounded out the top four.
At the top of the individual leaderboard, Oklahoma City's Logan Allen captured medalist honors after finishing at 6-over par (150). Texas Wesleyan's Natalie Miksovska claimed second place at 8-over par (152), while MidAmerica Nazarene's Amy Fusedale took third at 10-over par (154).
Gomez paced the Bruins and secured an eighth-place finish at 16-over par (80-80 = 160). She played a very steady final round, carding an 8-over 80 while compiling a team-high 11 pars on the day.
Shreya Suresh earned a top-10 finish, tying for ninth place overall at 17-over par (79-82 = 161). She recorded six pars on Tuesday and converted a pair of birdies on the 481-yard, par-5 third and 500-yard, par-5 sixth holes.
Patricija Jakovleva tied for 30th place at 28-over par (82-90 = 172). She registered five pars during her final round.
Nellie Forsen rounded out the lineup in 38th place at 39-over par (86-97 = 183). She recorded six pars on the day.
