BU sits in third after opening day at Bent Tree
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- A steady performance from senior Maria Pinedo helped the Bellevue University women's golf team position itself in contention after the opening round of the Bent Tree Intercollegiate, hosted by Iowa Western Community College at the par-72, 5,861-yard Bent Tree Golf Club.
The Bruins posted a team score of 33-over 321 and sit just three shots behind co-leaders Iowa Western and Doane, who are tied atop the leaderboard at 30-over par.
Pinedo led the charge with an impressive 1-over 73, placing her second in the 49-player field. Her round featured 13 pars, a pair of birdies, and just three bogeys, putting her two strokes back of IWCC's Olivia Holyoak-Church, who leads after carding a 1-under 71.
Ilysia Ibnu also turned in a strong performance, finishing the day in a tie for fourth at 6-over par. Her round was anchored by 13 pars, including a 1-over 37 on the back nine.
Aaricia Noel-Traissac battled through the course to sit in 18th place at 12-over par. She carded a birdie and added five pars to her scorecard.
Megan Harty closed her round at 14-over par, placing her in a tie for 21st. She tallied seven pars over the opening 18 holes.
Chloe Blandinieres wrapped up the team scoring with a 17-over 89, highlighted by a birdie and four pars. She is currently tied for 26th place.
The Bruins return to the course for Tuesday's final round, with tee times beginning at 9:50 a.m.
