BISMARCK, N.D. -- After her strong performance in the NCAA Division II-dominated Swan Memorial Tournament, senior Maria Pinedo has been named the North Star Athletic Association Women's Golfer of the Week. It marked the first time this season and the ninth time in her BU career that she has won the honor.
Pinedo shot the Bruins' best score of the second round, guiding the Bellevue University women's golf team into a tie for seventh place at the 12-team Swan Memorial, which was held at the par-72 Broadlands Golf Course and hosted by Colorado Christian University. Bellevue was the lone NAIA team competing in the tournament, along with 10 NCAA Division II schools and a junior college.
Pinedo fired a 2-over 74 in the second round, finishing the 36-hole tournament at 5-over par following Monday's first-round score of 3-over 75. She finished in a tie for 13th place overall in the 68-player field.
Pinedo's consistent play was highlighted by three birdies and 26 pars over the two rounds.
The Bruins will travel to Rapid City, S.D. next Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 16-17, to compete in the Hardrocker Invitational being played at the Golf Club of Red Rock.
