Moreland's 71 lifts BU to fourth entering final round at Nationals

LINCOLN, Neb. --  Sophomore Karissa Moreland shot the day's lowest round with a 1-under par 71 as the Bruins climbed into fourth place after the third round of play in the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club.

Moreland was the only golfer in the 144-player field to shoot under par on Thursday. She recorded three birdies on the day. Moreland is currently in a tie for 44th in the individual standings.

The Bruins' team score of 299 Thursday was the lowest round of the tournament thus far. 

SCAD Savannah and Oklahoma City University are tied for the team lead after three rounds with 914 totals through 54 holes. University of Cumberlands is in third, 10 strokes off the pace. Bellevue is in fourth place and is 13 strokes off the lead with a three-day team score of 927 (314-314-299). 

Renee Santoyo shot a 75 on Thursday and continues to lead the Bruins individually as she enters the final round in a tie for fifth place at 10-over par for the tournament. She is six strokes back from tournament leaders Alazne Urizar of SCAD Savannah and Elia Folch of Oklahoma City.

Charlene Dubois fired a 4-over par 76 and is currently tied for 22nd with a 3-day total of 233 (82-75-76). Natalia Soria is tied for 48th after shooting a 77 for a 54-hole total of 240 (76-87-77). 

Maria Saavedra registered an 85 Thursday and is in a tie for 56th with a 244 (81-78-85) total. 

The 72-hole event will conclude tomorrow (May 23). The top 17 teams and 40 individuals will complete in Friday's fourth and final round.
