Sharpe highlights BU's all-NSAA selections

ABERDEEN, S.D. -- Led by Erin Sharpe, the Bellevue University softball team was well represented on the all-North Star Athletic Association softball teams announced tonight in conjunction with the 2018 NSAA Post-Season Tournament being played May 4-7 in Aberdeen, S.D. 

Sharpe, a junior third baseman/pitcher, and freshman outfielder Grace Glotfelty both earned first-team honors, and Sharpe was named the NSAA Player of the Year. Senior pitcher Lexi LeCalsey was named to the second team. In addition, senior catcher Sayde Woten, senior first baseman Alex Tooley, junior right fielder Maddie Siedlik, and Glotfelty were all named to the Gold Glove Team for their defensive prowess. 

Sharpe, who earned first-team honors for the second-straight season, led the Bruins with a .412 batting average, 17 home runs, 16 doubles and 53 RBIs. She also paced BU in the circle with 16 wins, a 1.54 ERA, and 133 strikeouts. In the latest NSAA statistics, Sharpe leads the league in home runs, RBIs and ERA. 

Glotfelty was second on the team with a .396 batting average, 15 doubles, nine home runs, and 36 RBIs. She started all 54 games in the outfield as a freshman. Glotfelty ranks in the top 10 in the NSAA in eight different statistical categories, including second with 74 total hits.

LeCalsey has a 13-8 record with one save and a 2.47 ERA. She is second on the team with 131 strikeouts in a team-leading 144 innings pitched. She ranked fourth in the league with 6.52 strikeouts per game and fifth with a .246 opponent batting average.  

The Bruins (32-22/ 13-11 NSAA) opened the NSAA Tournament earlier today, remaining alive with a 4-3 win over Mayville State after falling earlier in the day, 3-2, to Dakota State. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic berth into the NAIA National Tournament. Bellevue will battle the loser of the Jamestown vs. Dakota State game at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
