POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. -- Bellevue University softball players Brooke Ellis and Amanda Neumann have been named the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference's Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week announced by the league office today.
A native of Carlisle, Iowa, Ellis went 6-for-12 at the plate in four games last week, helping the Bruins to a 3-1 record. For the week, she recorded four home runs, four runs scored and nine RBIs. In BU's douleheader sweep against Doane College on April 1, Ellis blasted three home runs with seven RBIs.
Ellis leads the Bruins this season with 23 RBIs and she has also hit six home runs and four doubles while batting .307.
Neumann earned three wins last week for the Bruins, compiling a 1.38 ERA in 20.1 innings. She totaled 28 strikeouts for the week, including a season-high 10 in a 6-5 win versus Doane.
For the season, Neumann leads the Bruins pitching staff with a 9-5 record and has tallied 91 strikeouts in 93.1 innings pitched. She is also second on the team in batting, hitting .378 with 18 runs, three doubles, one triple, five home runs and 17 RBIs.
This is the time this season Neumann has earned a weekly softball honor. She was named the MCAC Player of Week on March 21.
The Bruins will open conference play tomorrow (April 5) when they welcome Peru State College to Hall of Fame Fields for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader.
