The Bellevue University softball team will conclude its eight-game homestand this week with three conference home doubleheaders scheduled. The Bruins will open the week with a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader against Peru State College on Tuesday, April 5 before playing host to York College on Friday, April 8 at 4:00 p.m. BU will conclude the week playing Haskell Indian Nations University on Saturday, April 9 at noon.

Scouting Bellevue
Bellevue, winners of eight of its last ten games, is currently 13-12 overall and is coming off of a home doubleheader sweep of Doane College on April 1, winning the first game 6-5, in eight innings, and taking the nightcap 7-4.
Amanda Neumann is second on the team in hitting, batting .378 with 18 runs, five home runs and 17 RBIs. Kathryn Wardian bats .352 with four doubles, seven home runs, 17 runs and 16 RBIs. Brooke Ellis paces the Bruins with 22 RBIs and has blasted six home runs. Katie Malloy leads the Bruin offense with a .392 batting average and Jessica Guyle, last year’s MCAC Newcomer of the Year, bats .349 with nine stolen bases, 10 RBIs and a team-high 29 hits.
In the circle, Neumann leads the team with a 9-5 record, 91 strikeouts and eight complete games in 93.1 innings pitched. Allie Bartley is 4-2 with a 3.64 ERA and has registered 28 strikeouts and two complete games in 40.1 innings.
BU bats .297 with an on-base percentage of .347 and a .442 slugging percentage. The Bruins have also hit 33 doubles, three triples, 19 home runs and are 18-for-24 in stolen base attempts. The pitching staff has an ERA of 4.98 with 135 strikeouts and eight complete games this season in 166 innings. Opponents are hitting .289 against the Bruins.
The Bruins return five starters from last season’s team that finished with a 32-17 overall record and a 10-0 MCAC mark en route to winning the conference regular season and postseason tournament titles. Bellevue also advanced to its fourth NAIA National Tournament, falling in pool play.
Scouting Peru State
Peru State is 17-15 overall and is coming off of a pair of 4-2 home wins against Hastings College on April 3.
Ashley Wohlers leads PSC with a .382 batting average with five doubles, three home runs and 23 RBIs. Alyssa Mangum Susan Kies has a team-high four home runs with 21 RBIs while batting .274. The pitching staff is led by Lyndsay Drumm who is 6-6 with a 2.36 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 77 innings. Devon Massengale has compiled seven wins this season and also paces the team with 48 strikeouts in 81.1 innings pitched with a 3.18 ERA.
The Bobcats have a team batting average of .298 with 45 doubles, six triples and 12 home runs. PSC is also 20-for-22 in stolen base attempts. The pitching staff has an ERA of 3.70 with 87 strikeouts in 202.2 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .299 against the Bobcats.
Scouting York
York is 2-16-1 this season with its two wins coming at home against Presentation College on March 22. The Panthers also tied Avila University, 9-9, in their first game of the season on Feb. 26.
Yolonda Alailefaleula leads YC with a .441 batting average along with 15 hits, four doubles, two triples, one home run and eight RBIs. Lexi Paspalof has scored a team-high 11 runs and is batting .333 with eight RBIs. Jessie Griffith and Danielle Driscoll have each recorded a win for the Tigers while Driscoll has team-high 31 strikeouts in 33.2 innings pitched.
The Panthers bat .267 with 15 doubles, four triples and four home runs this season. YC has an ERA of 10.68 along with 69 strikeouts in 96.1 innings pitched. The opposition is batting .418 with an on-base percentage of .489 and a .608 slugging percentage against the Tigers’ pitching staff.
Scouting Haskell
Haskell is 1-19 on the season and is on a 16-game losing streak after winning its lone game of the season versus Crowley’s Ridge College on Feb. 25, 11-1.
Samantha Robertson leads HIN with a .306 batting average along with 11 hits, four runs and six RBIs. Hillary Culver leads the team with 12 hits and bats .286. Robertson has also recorded the Indians’ only win of the season and has compiled a 4.08 ERA.
The Indians bat .209 and have hit eight doubles, one triple and six home runs this season. HIN has an ERA of 5.30 along with 26 strikeouts. The opposition is batting .372 with an on-base percentage of .438 and a .546 slugging percentage against the Indians’ pitching staff.
Meet the Coaches
Michala Cimino is in her second season at the helm of the Bruin softball program and guided Bellevue to the program’s fourth appearance at the NAIA Softball National Championship in her inaugural campaign in 2010. She has a 45-29 (.608) overall record at BU.
Cimino led Bellevue to a 32-17 overall record and a 10-0 league mark as BU claimed both the MCAC regular season and tournament titles. She also was named the 2010 MCAC Coach of the Year. Cimino is assisted by Kelly Cheshier, Julia Krejci and Katie Lefler.
Mark Matthews, the winningest coach in Peru State softball history, is in his 18th season as head coach in 2011. He has compiled an overall record of 454-407 (.527) and is assisted by Tony Powell, Alexis Trujillo and Lauren Flori.
Tori Means is in her first year as the head softball at York and is assisted by Niki Ploen and Brenda Perry.
Haskell is coached by Joe Bointy, who took over as head coach after eight games this season. He is assisted by Rich Brewer, John Scott-Harjo and Bruce McKinney.

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball squad swept Doane College 6-5 and 7-4 in a non-conference doubleheader Friday evening at Hall of Fame Fields.
The Bruins used a walk-off home run by Amanda Neumann to pull out the opening game win and belted 17 hits in the nightcap to register the sweep. Neumann collected both victories on the mound, and Brooke Ellis blasted three home runs on the day with seven RBIs.

Bellevue University finished the 2010 season with a 32-17 overall record and captured the MCAC regular season and tournament titles, while advancing to the NAIA Division National Tournament.
Kendra Gansz was named the MCAC Player of the Year, Alissa Crumley MCAC Pitcher of the Year and Jessica Guyle earned MCAC Newcomer of the Year honors. In her first season at BU, Michala Cimino was named the MCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Bruins to an undefeated 10-0 conference record.
Six Bruins were named to the MCAC first team including Gansz, Crumley, Guyle, Brooke Ellis, Allie Bartley and Erica McCoy. Kim Wees and Kara Erwin were named to the second team. Jenny Gawart and Katie Lefler gained honorable mention recognition.

The Bruins will begin a four-game road trip next week when they face in-state non-conference foe Hastings College on Wednesday, April 13 at 4:00 p.m. BU will return to MCAC play at Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Friday, April 15 at 5:00 p.m. and Central Christian College at noon on Saturday, April 16.
