SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- The No. 7-ranked Bellevue University men's soccer team used a pair of first-half goals and a late match-winner to earn a 3-2 road victory over Briar Cliff University on Wednesday afternoon at Faber Field. With the result, the Bruins improve to 3-1-1 on the season.
Briar Cliff struck first in the third minute as Alejandro Illan scored off a pass from David Sauter. Bellevue responded quickly, equalizing just over a minute later when Samuel Puth scored following a feed from Joshua Harvey. In the 17th minute, Jeremiah Hteh gave the Bruins the lead with his second goal of the season, capitalizing on a rebound opportunity to make it 2-1.
After a defensive second half, Illan tallied his second goal in the 79th minute to pull the Chargers level at 2-2. Just two minutes later, Bellevue reclaimed the lead for good when Puth assisted Kyi Nicholson for the eventual game-winner in the 82nd minute.
Both teams finished with 13 total shots, while the Bruins held a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. Bellevue goalkeeper Kaden Simpson made two saves to earn the win.
