LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Bellevue University sophomore Buster Honeywood (Kessingland, England) and freshman Jeremiah Hteh (Omaha, Neb.) have been cited by the Continental Athletic Conference as the league's Men's Soccer Players of the Week, as announced by the CAC office on Monday.
Honeywood earned CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after helping the Bruins to wins over #16 Columbia College and Dordt University. He scored in the victory over Dordt and helped anchor a defensive effort which saw BU limit the Defenders to just one shot on goal. Playing a man down for the final half hour against Columbia, Honeywood helped the defense hold the Cougars in check long enough for Bellevue to bag a late winner.
Hteh earned CAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring in both of BU's wins over #16 Columbia and Dordt. He scored the opening goal in the Bruins' 3-2 win over Columbia, taking a pass in the box and making a quick before banking a shot off a Columbia defender. He followed that up by scoring the eventual game-winner against Dordt by taking a pass and turning at the six before slotting home his fifth goal of the year.
Bellevue is now 11-0-2 on the season and ranked No. 5 in the latest NAIA Coaches' Top 25; they are 16-0-2 in their last 18 regular seasons games, dating back to last September.
The Bruins travel to Marshall, Mo. for a 7 p.m. kickoff against No. 7 Missouri Valley College before returning home to Papillion Landing where they will host the University of Jamestown on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. for Senior Day.
