BU opens season with 6-0 win over Doane

PAPILLION, Neb. -- A pair of first half goals from Matias Daniel-Doren paced play as the No. 8-ranked Bellevue University men's soccer team opened the season with a 6-0 victory over Doane University on Thursday afternoon.
The win was Bruin head coach Mark Heath-Preston's 100th career victory at Bellevue.
Bellevue has now beaten Doane in the season-opener in each of the past three years and are now 5-1-3 in season-openers under Heath-Preston (16-9-4 overall).
Daniel-Doren put Bellevue on the board in the fourth minute after taking a pass near the penalty spot where he settled a pass from Edwin Cisneros and guided the ball with precision into the bottom corner of the net.
Ombeni Mubake doubled the advantage in the 17th minute, running onto a ball laid off, by David Tschupp, in the middle of the area.
Three minutes later, Daniel-Doren found his second strike. Giovani Lima Soares and Mubake linked up with a quick give and turn along the endline before Daniel-Doren ran onto another shot.
The Bruins added a fourth goal in the 27th minute with Jeremiah Hteh settling a pass and calmly delivering a shot low and into the back of the net. Alvaro Moros Sanz and Alvaro Jacinto combined on the assists as BU took a 4-0 lead into halftime along with an 11-2 advantage in shots.
Bellevue received help from the Tigers early in the second half when a defender knocked Jake Cover's cross into the Doane goal to make the score 5-0.
Kevin Becerril capped the scoring with a goal in the 80th minute where he dribbled in from the wing and beat the keeper low and to the far side.
Fernando Moreno paced the Tigers with a pair of shots as he and Isaiah Lohman accounted for both shots on goal.
Taariq Ganga stopped both shots on frame as he combined with Kaden Simpson on the clean sheet for the Bruins.
Samuel Montanez totaled five saves in goal for Doane and Curtis Oberg added two off the bench.
The Bruins return home to Papillion Landing on Saturday when they host Hastings College for a 7:30 p.m. kick-off.
