BU Men's Soccer signs JuCo midfielder Joya
Midfielder Gerson Joya (Lincoln, Neb.) has signed his LOI to play for the Bruins
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University men's soccer team, under head coach Mark Heath-Preston, announced today the signing of Gerson Joya (Lincoln, Neb.) to a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall.
Joya is the son of Blanca Pereira and comes to Bellevue from Iowa Western Community College where he spent two seasons with the Reivers. Joya is a 5-7 midfielder who tallied three goals and six assists during the 2014 season to help IWCC reach the NJCAA Final Four. Joya played high school soccer at Lincoln Northeast High School and club soccer at CSA under Coach Rudy Wagner.
Coach Heath-Preston said of Joya, "We are delighted to have Gerson sign his National Letter of Intent and commit to playing at BU. Gerson was a part of IWCC for two years and can now join us in the spring. He will bring experience, quality, and depth to this program."
Joya joins earlier signees Toby Millward (Heacham, England), Yago Ramos (Santa Cecilia, Brazil), and Jack Finocchiaro (Omaha, Neb.) in the Bruins 2017 recruiting class.
Last season the Bruins posted an overall record of 12-6-2 (4-0-0 NSAA) on their way to capturing both the North Star Regular-Season and Tournament Championships. It was the fourth-straight season that BU won a conference tournament championship and third-straight in which they claimed the regular-season title.
