BU travels to Mississippi for a pair of matches

This Week:
The Bellevue University men’s soccer team returns to action this week when they travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. for a pair of matches. The Bruins will play No. 22 William Carey University on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7:00 p.m. before facing Northwood (Fla.) University on Saturday, Sept. 3. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. with the Seahawks.
Scouting Bellevue:
The Bruins return nine letterwinners and four starters from last year’s team that finished with a 13-6-1 overall record. BU is currently 0-1-0 on the season and is coming off of a 3-0 loss at MidAmerica Nazarene University.
Among BU’s returnees includes junior forward David Lastra. The 2010 MCAC Offensive Player of the Year led the Bruins with 10 goals and 40 shots last season. Lastra leads the team with three shots this season.
The Bruins also return senior defender Tom Dodds who suffered a back injury that sidelined him last year and received a medical redshirt. He was a first team all-MCAC selection in 2009 and was a key component to the Bruins’ defense which registered 10 shutouts.

OLATHE, Kan. -- Trent Remmich scored three goals to lead MidAmerica Nazarene University (1-0-0) to a 3-0 win over Bellevue University (0-1-0) in its 2011 season opener at Pioneer Field. David Lastra led the Bruins with three shots and one on goal. Luke Baxter played all 90 minutes in goal for BU and recorded four saves.
Preseason Rankings:
Bellevue University men’s soccer program earned 36 votes in the preseason top 25 coaches’ poll released on Tuesday, Aug. 16.
The Bruins will face five teams in the preseson top 25 poll, including Oklahoma Baptist (No. 8), Kansas Wesleyan (No. 10), Grand View (No. 13), William Carey (No. 22) and Columbia (No. 23).
Bellevue also topped the 2011 MCAC men’s soccer preseason coaches’ poll released on Wednesday, Aug. 24.
Last Season Recap:
The Bruins won the 2010 MCAC regular season title with a 4-0 mark and ended the season with a 13-6-1 overall record. Bellevue finished second in the MCAC/DAC/Frontier Unaffiliated Group Tournament, losing 2-1 to the University of Great Falls in the championship game.

The Bruins will play three matches next week. BU visits Graceland University on Tuesday, Sept. 6 before concluding the week by traveling to Hastings, Neb. for matches against Hannibal-LaGrange University on Friday, Sept. 9 and eighth-ranked Oklahoma Baptist University on Saturday, Sept. 10.
