Briggs adds Rafferty to 2012 roster
Bruin head men's soccer coach Matt Briggs announced today the signing of Gary Rafferty (Glasgow, Scotland/Pratt CC/Clydebank HS) to a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at Bellevue University beginning in the fall of 2012.
Rafferty, who is the son of Christine and Frank Rafferty, played two seasons at Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kan. where he was the leading goal scorer both his freshman and sophomore seasons. He scored 16 goals and added four assists for 36 points last season while guiding the Beavers to a second round appearance in the Region VI Playoffs.
"Gary is another great addition to our squad," said Briggs. "After watching him play last season and then seeing him train, we feel we have picked up a very strong center forward. He has a proven goal-scoring record at Pratt Community College and we are sure that will continue into his next two seasons with us."
An excellent student, Rafferty was a member of the Dean's Honor Roll and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
"Gary has great leadership qualities, which is why he was captain at Pratt for his two years there," added Briggs. "We are looking for him to bring those same leadership qualities to us next year."
Rafferty joins the Bruins' earlier signees Conor O'Reilly (Birmingham, England/Arch Bishop Ilsley Catholic Technology College), Matt Ward (Lincoln, England/North Lincolnshire College), Corey Smith (Ulvertson, England/Ulvertson Victoria HS), Leigh Veidman (Liverpool, England/Texas at Brownsville/IWCC) , Jo Maxwell (Maybole, Scotland/Carrick Academy) and Charles Samushonga (Glasgow, Scotland/Pratt CC).
