UTB transfer signs with Bruin men's soccer
Bruin head men's soccer coach Matt Briggs announced today that forward Leigh Veidman (Liverpool, England/Texas at Brownsville/IWCC) has signed a letter of intent to transfer to Bellevue University for the 2012 season.
Veidman, who will have one season of eligibility remaining, played one year at University of Texas at Brownsville and two at Iowa Western Community College.
Veidman earned first team all-conference honors last season, while leading the Scorpions and the Red River Athletic Conference with 14 goals and 29 points. He also guided UTB to a berth in the NAIA National Tournament.
“We are very fortunate to have signed a player of Leigh’s quality for his senior season," said Briggs. "He is a proven goal scorer during his first three years playing collegiate soccer at both the junior college and NAIA level. Leigh brings a wealth of experience and quality to our young team and we will be looking for Leigh to take a leadership role this season."
While at Iowa Western, Veidman earned All-American honors and was twice named to the all-conference first team. Veidman set school records for goals (23) and points (51) scored in a season. He also set the school record with five goals in a game.
"Leigh is a willing runner, but also has great hold up and play and is able to bring others into play," added Briggs. "We couldn’t be happier to have Leigh sign with us and really look forward to working with him to ensure his senior season is a memorable one.”
Veidman joins the Bruins' earlier signees Jo Maxwell (Maybole, Scotland/Carrick Academy) and Charles Samushonga (Glasgow, Scotland/Pratt CC).
