Briggs signs Scotland's Maxwell
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Head men's soccer coach Matt Briggs announced today the signing of defender Jo Maxwell (Maybole, Scotland/Carrick Academy) to a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at Bellevue University beginning in the fall of 2012.
Maxwell attended Carrick Academy and won the Aryshire Cup in 2008. He played club soccer for the Maybole Juniors under head coach Peter Leonard where he helped lead the team to the championship in 2010. Maxwell also was a seven-year captain for Ayr United.
“We are delighted to have Jo join our program at Bellevue", said Briggs. "Jo is a very talented defender who has the ability to play anywhere across the back four. He will add quality and competition to our squad."
Maxwell is the son of Sharon and Robin Maxwell and has four older siblings, Stewart, Samantha, Leyann, and Tamie.
"Jo is a great kid with a huge appetite for the game, his enthusiasm will be contagious and help rub off on his new teammates,” added Briggs.
Maxwell joins earlier signee Charles Samushonga (Glasgow, Scotland/Pratt CC) in the 2012 recruiting class.
