Bruins shut out McPherson, 4-0
OMAHA, Neb. – Bellevue University ran their home win streak to three straight following Wednesday night’s 4-0 shutout win over McPherson College at Tranquility Park. Bellevue scored twice in the first fifteen minutes of the match and never looked back as they improve to 6-3-1 on the season sending McPherson College to below .500 at 3-4-1.
Ryan Pow got the Bruins on the board first with a goal on a cross from Trevor Eastman, his second of the season as Bellevue took a 2-0 lead two minutes later. On a double-assist that saw the ball crossed from Tom Garrick to Ryan Pow with two touches, Tom White (2) then finished it off in front of the goal.
Midway through the second half, Adam Hooi (Omaha, NE) connected on Bellevue’s first penalty kick of the season giving him his second goal of 2008. Lee Welburn finished things off deep into the second half at the 77:28 minute mark when a rebound came to him inside the box and he ripped it past the keeper.
Bellevue finished with 15 shots compared to one of their opponents, six of which were on goal. McPherson recorded the only corner kick of the evening as the Bruins committed 14 fouls to 7 of the Bulldogs.
Tom White led Bellevue with three shots, one on goal, but that one reached the back of the net. Six other Bruin started had two shots each to combine for the remaining 12 shots. Luke Baxter, MCAC Defensive Player of the Week, kept up his solid performance with the help of his defense, recording his second shutout in three matches playing all 90 minutes in goal.
Jose Arenas had the long shot taken for McPherson College in the loss as Chris Plooster had two saves allowing four goals in 90 minutes to get the loss. The Bulldogs played a man down for the majority of the game until the Bruins were given a second yellow card making play even for the final 25 minutes of the match.
Bellevue will be off for the next ten days as they rest, recover and prepare to open their conference schedule at Central Christian College in McPherson, Kansas on Saturday, October 4 at 3:30 p.m.
