Bellevue defeats Grand View, 3-1
DES MOINES, Iowa -- The 15th ranked men's soccer team defeated Grand View College, receiving votes in NAIA, on Tuesday evening, 3-1, to win their seventh straight improving to 10-3-1 overall. The loss will put Grand View College at 10-4-1 for the season. The Bruins have now won 10 or more wins a season for the 13th straight year dating back to the 1996 season.
The match remained scoreless until sophomore Kyle Kirkland put one in the back of the net in the 34th minute giving Bellevue a 1-0 edge. Grand View College was able to tie the match when the put a goal in four minutes after the half. Mirsad Kazic scored making the score 1-1.
After neither team could shake the net, Adam Hooi scored his fifth goal of the year in the 73rd minute taking a 2-1 lead. The margin would be extended to two (3-1) when Mark Heath-Preston scored his team-leading 12th goal of the year three minutes later (76:47). That would be the final as the time ran off giving Bellevue seven in a row.
Bellevue had 16 shots for the match getting five shots from Mark Heath-Preston, a team-high. Four other Bruins had two shots each, Ryan Cantello, Lee Welburn, Adam Hooi and Jamie McCormack. For the night, Welburn and Cantello added assists with the third and final coming from a penalty kick. Sebastian Narvaez won his second straight match in goal with six saves in 90 minutes improving to 5-3-1.
Grand View College had a team-high seven shots from Lyall Menzies with two each from Marcus Dawson and Mirsad Kazic. The Vikings finished with 14 total shots, seven on goal, as Joe Waithanji had the loss in goal with eight saves allowing all three goals.
Bellevue has two conference matches remaining before post-season, first this weekend against Oklahoma Wesleyan Wesleyan University at 3:30 p.m. and next Saturday (Nov. 1) on the road at York College, kick-off at 3:30 p.m.
