Bellevue shuts out Central Christian, 3-0
MCPHERSON, Kan. -- The men's soccer team, receiving votes in the last NAIA rankings, picked up another shutout with a 3-0 win over Central Christian College on Saturday afternoon in conference action. The Bruins will go to 7-3-1 on the season and 1-0-0 in the league as the host Tigers will fall to 5-7-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference.
The match remained scoreless through the first 45 minutes with Bellevue taking a 11-0 advantage on shots and 5-1 in corner kicks. With the score knotted at 0-0, Julio Estrada changed all that with a goal 15 minutes into the second half. Casey Friend (New Iberia, La.) picked up the assist to Estrada giving Bellevue a 1-0 lead.
The scored remained at 1-0 until the 72nd minute with Tom Garrick picked up a goal on a Tom White assist putting the Bruins up 2-0. Six minutes later (78:45), Garrick earned his second score of the match on a Casey Friend assist, his second of the contest, putting Bellevue up by the final of 3-0.
Tom Garrick and Tom White led the Bruins with six and five shots respectively with two shots each from Ryan Cantello, Casey Friend and Julio Estrada. Luke Baxter, since taking over the starting roll in goal in late September, picked up his third straight shutout victory improving to 4-0-0 on the year. Baxter had one save in 90 minutes.
Ben Stropes had two shots to lead Central Christian as Micah Johnson had the final of three shots taken by the Tigers all match. Central Christian was out-shot by Bellevue (3-22) and 2-8 in corner kicks despite committing nine fewer fouls, 7-16. Andrew Stauffer picked up the loss allowing all three goals in 90 minutes with three saves.
