Brown announces retirement following 2025-26 season
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Rob Brown, the only head coach in the history of the Bellevue University men's golf program, has announced he will retire following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, his 15th at the helm.
Brown, who was hired in 2010 to launch the program, built the Bruins from a startup into a perennial national power. Under his leadership, Bellevue has captured 12 conference championships, 48 team tournament titles, and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament 12 times.
Current women's golf head coach Craig Marsh has been named the Director of Golf and will assume leadership of both the men's and women's programs beginning in the 2026-27 season.
"When we hired Rob in 2010 to launch this program, we had high hopes, but he has exceeded every expectation we could have imagined," said Athletic Director Ed Lehotak. "Rob didn't just build a roster; he built a culture of excellence and integrity that established Bellevue University as a premier destination for collegiate golf. His impact on this department and the young men he has mentored is immeasurable, and we are forever grateful for his 15 years of dedication."
"It has been the privilege of a lifetime to launch this program and watch it grow into what it is today," said Brown. "To see the way our student-athletes have competed, graduated, and represented this university is my greatest source of pride. I am stepping away with a full heart, knowing that I have left this program in great hands. Craig is top-notch at what he does, with a unique ability to train, identify, recruit, and mentor young talent. I have no doubt he will do a tremendous job overseeing both squads and that he has the skills to keep moving this program forward into the future."
"It is a tremendous honor to be named Director of Golf and to be entrusted with the legacy Rob has built," said Marsh. "Rob is a legend in our profession, and the standard he has set for Bellevue Golf is unmatched. I look forward to building upon that foundation and continuing to drive both programs toward national prominence while honoring the culture that Rob established over the last decade and a half."
A Legacy of Excellence ... Since the program's first varsity season in 2011-12, Brown's teams have been a fixture on the national stage. He guided the Bruins to five top-10 finishes at the NAIA National Championships, highlighted by a program-best third-place finish in 2022 and a fifth-place showing in 2013. Most recently, his 2024-25 squad placed seventh nationally, continuing a tradition of excellence that spans a decade and a half.
Brown's resume is decorated with accolades, including 12 Conference Coach of the Year awards and two GCAA Regional Coach of the Year honors. He has recruited and developed elite talent, coaching 15 NAIA All-Americans, 46 First Team All-Conference selections, and 10 Conference Golfers of the Year.
His impact extended beyond the course, with 38 student-athletes earning Conference Scholar-Athlete honors during his tenure.
Building a Powerhouse ... Brown arrived at Bellevue with nearly 40 years of professional golf experience, including time teaching alongside legend Al Geiberger and serving as a head professional at prestigious clubs such as Wakonda Club (Des Moines) and The Minikahda Club (Minneapolis).
He wasted no time establishing a winning culture. In their inaugural season (2011-12), Brown led the Bruins to a conference championship and a national tournament berth—a feat they would repeat consistently over the next decade. His 2020-21 team set a school record by winning eight tournament titles in a single season.
An accomplished player in his own right, Brown is a former Iowa State Open champion, a five-time Iowa PGA Senior Champion, and a qualifier for the U.S. Senior Open.
Brown will coach his final season in 2025-26, looking to add to a career total that currently sits at 48 tournament victories.
