Rodgers Paces BU on Opening Day at Whistling Straits Classic
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — The Bellevue University men's golf team sits in seventh place after Monday's opening round of the Whistling Straits Classic, played on the 6,924-yard, par-72 Whistling Straits Golf Course.
The Bruins combined for a team score of 331 (+43) in the opening 18 holes of the 36-hole event. Bellevue is seven strokes behind sixth-place Pikeville (+38) and trails tournament leader Taylor University by 19 shots after the Trojans opened with a 312 (+24).
Dylan Rodgers led Bellevue with an 8-over 80, highlighted by a birdie on the par-5 11th hole and nine pars on the day. He is tied for 13th overall in the 63-player field.
Ludwig Klingspor carded a 9-over 81, finishing strong with nine pars and balanced nines of 41 and 40 to sit in a tie for 19th place.
Randy Christiansen finished at 84 (+12), highlighted by a birdie on the par-3 seventh, to tie for 32nd place.
Thomas Gatlin registered an 86 (+14), with three birdies — all on par-5 holes (Nos. 2, 5, and 11) — and seven pars to finish tied for 38th.
Kyle Dale rounded out the scoring for the Bruins with an 88 (+16) that featured eight pars and a birdie on the par-3 seventh, tying for 44th place.
Grace's Camron Jones holds the individual lead after carding a 2-over 74, one stroke ahead of Taylor's Davis Formsma (+3). Pikeville's Kaeden Anderson (+4) is two strokes back in third place.
