Rodgers climbs to 11th, Morales cards 69 as Bruins take sixth
NEWTON, Kan. -- Dylan Rodgers led Bellevue University in the final round of the Mid-South Classic, as the Bruins placed sixth overall in the 18-team field.
The tournament was hosted by Grand View University and played at the 6,872-yard, par-72 Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
Rodgers shot a 1-over 73 in Tuesday's final round to finish tied for 11th overall with a 3-round total of 218 (+2). Ludwig Klingspor, who entered the day tied for second, carded a 77 in the final round and finished in a tie for 15th at 219 (+3).
Kyle Dale tied for 36th after shooting a 77, finishing the tournament at 224 (+8). Randy Christiansen also posted a 79 to conclude at 225 (+9), tied for 39th. Thomas Gatlin closed with a 74, tying for 49th overall at 227 (+11).
Competing as an individual, Emilio Morales delivered Bellevue's best round of the day — a 3-under 69 — which featured three birdies and 15 pars. He vaulted 27 spots up the leaderboard to tie for 39th with a 3-round total of 225 (+9). Fellow individual Martin Hempston closed with a 77 and tied for 72nd at 236 (+20).
MidAmerica Nazarene claimed the team title with a 3-round total of 862 (-2), narrowly edging Friends University by two strokes. Nebraska Wesleyan (870, +6), USAO (874, +10), and Missouri Valley (875, +11) rounded out the top five, with Bellevue finishing sixth at 881 (+17).
MNU's Josh Killingsworth captured medalist honors at 209 (-7), followed by teammate Hunter Schmidt in second at 211 (-5).
Up next, the Bruins travel to Dickinson, N.D., for the Dickinson State Fall Invitational on Sept. 15–16 at Heart River Golf Course.
