BU moves up three spots to finish third at Nebraska Intercollegiate
Led by Randy Christiansen's big day and the overall consistent play of Thomas Gatlin, the Bellevue University men's golf team moved up three spots, finishing in third place at the 10-team Nebraska Intercollegiate Invitational being played at the 7,043-yard, par-72 Lochland Country Club.
HASTINGS, Neb. -- Led by Randy Christiansen's big day and the overall consistent play of Thomas Gatlin, the Bellevue University men's golf team moved up three spots, finishing in third place at the 10-team Nebraska Intercollegiate Invitational being played at the 7,043-yard, par-72 Lochland Country Club.
Bellevue shot nine shots better than Friday's opening round, 12-over 300, finishing with a second round of 291, putting the Bruins at 15-over par for the tournament.
The host school, Hastings College, won the team title, finishing at 3-over par with rounds of 5-over 293 and 2-under 286. BU was three strokes out of second place, which went to Northeast Community College, who finished at 12-over par (298-290).
Christiansen shot BU's best round on the day with a 2-under par 70 to go with his opening round of 5-over 77. His 3-over-par 36-hole total put him in a tie for eighth place in the 49-player field. Christiansen had five birdies on the day, with identical scores of 35 on both the front and back nine.
Thomas Gatlin tied for first in the individual standings at 3-under par. He posted a 1-under par 71 after going 2-under par in Friday's opening round. He tied Hastings' Henry Kosmicki who posted the same rounds as Gatlin of 70 and 71. Gatlin registered four birdies in the second round and 10 birdies for the tournament. Gatlin defeated Kosmicki in the first playoff hole (17th hole) to take home the individual crown.
Kyle Dale finished in seventh place after posting identical scores of 1-over par 73, putting him at 2-over for the tournament. Five birdies sparked Dale's round.
Cayden Wynne carded a 5-over 77, finishing 13-over par for the tournament and in 34th place. He had one birdie and 10 pars on the day.
Rounding out the day for the Bruins was Dylan Rodgers, who finished the tournament in a tie for 35th place with rounds of 81 and 78. He had two birdies and eight pars in the second round.
The Bruins return to action on Oct. 7-8 when they travel to Lemont, Ill., to compete in the Flyer Intercollegiate at the Cog Hill Golf and Country Club.
