Ishaya one stroke back at Verhille Invitational
The Bellevue University men’s golf team is tied for sixth place after one round of play at The Verhille Invitational, hosted by Mount Mercy University.
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Bellevue University men's golf team is tied for sixth place after one round of play at The Verhille Invitational, hosted by Mount Mercy University.
The 72-golfer, 12 team event is being held at the 6,856-yard, par 72 Finkbine Golf Course.
Host Mount Mercy (297, +9) holds a five-stroke lead over second place Park University (302, +14) and Hastings College (302, +14).
The Bruins shot 308 (+20) as a team and are tied with St. Ambrose in sixth place.
Tim Castle (-3, 69) of North Iowa Area Community College holds a one-shot lead over Bellevue's Nathan Ishaya (Ind.) on the individual leaderboard.
Ishaya shot 2-under 70 on the day, highlighted by four birdies on the front nine and three more on the back. He began with a bogey on No. 18 before shooting 4-under over the next 15 holes.
Bellevue was led by Totte Uhlan's 3-over 75 as Uhlan finds himself tied for 13th overall. He birdied back-to-back holes on both the front (1, 2) and back (12, 13) nine.
Cayden Wynne matched Uhlan with four birdies of his own on the way to carding a 4-over 76 while teammate Randy Christiansen was just a stroke back at 5-over (77) after a very consistent round.
Sam Johnson shot par on the back nine matching three birdies with three bogeys but was 8-over on the front. He is tied for 42nd with an 8-over 80.
Dylan Rodgers birdied a pair on the day and had just one bad hole. He is tied for 56th at 11-over (83).
Hugo Brandt is also participating as an individual and is tied for 32nd following a 6-over day. He scored a birdie on No. 1.
Tomorrow's second round wraps up the event.
