Bruins win weather-shortened AIB Spring Invite
Led by Jose Vega's 3-over par 74, the Bellevue University men's golf team claimed the team title Monday at the weather-shortened AIB Spring Invitational.
PANORA, Iowa -- Led by Jose Vega's 3-over par 74, the Bellevue University men's golf team claimed the team title Monday at the weather-shortened AIB Spring Invitational at the Lake Panorama National Golf Club.
The 17-team tournament, originally scheduled for 36 holes, was shortened to 18 holes after consistent rain on Sunday and 40-mile-an-hour winds on Monday.
The Bruins won the team title with a team score of 311, one stroke ahead of three other teams, AIB, Ashford, and Grand View, who all tied for second place.
Vega finished in a tie for second overall in the 94-man field.
Tomas Ovejero fired a 6-over 78 and tied for 14th place. Diego Gudino shot a 7-over 79, good for a tie for 24th place. Juan Gomez carded an 8-over 80, putting him in a tie for 27th place. Rounding out the Bruin scoring was Mike Hannon's 82.
The Bruins will travel to Maryville, Mo. on Monday-Tuesday, April 27-28 to participate in the MCAC-NSAA Tournament.
