Herrera, Vega named NAIA All-Americans
Jose Vega earned first team honors for the second time in his career while Nicolas Herrera was named a second team All-American.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Junior Jose Vega and freshman Nicolas Herrera earned All-American honors in an announcement made by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) on Monday.
Vega was named to the first team for the second-consecutive season while Herrera was awarded second team accolades.
A native of Medellin, Colombia, Vega led the Bruins with a 72.2 scoring average and also won two tournaments.
He also finished with under-par final scores in eight tournaments and tied his career-low with rounds of 67 three times.
Herrera ranked second on the team with an average score of 73.4 and recorded a season-low round of 68 twice. He shared the team lead with Vega with two events won.
The Cali, Colombia native was also named to the Golf Coaches Association of America NAIA all-Freshman Team and was awarded the NAIA National Golfer of the Week on April 2, the first in program history.
A total of 45 student-athletes were honored with 15 individuals being named to each of the three teams.
Vega was among 12 individuals making at least their second All-American appearance and Herrera was one of 10 freshman to earn the honor.
Bellevue advanced to its third-straight NAIA National Tournament in 2013-14, finishing in the top five in 10 tournaments.
In just their third season, the Bruins have four NAIA All-Americans.
