Hannon, BU win titles at MCAC-NSAA Tournament
Hannon wins first career title, BU claim third-straight league championship
ASHLAND, Neb. -- Led by Mike Hannon's first career title, the Bellevue University men's golf team claimed its third-straight league championship in the rain-shortened Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference-North Star Athletic Association Tournament Tuesday at Quarry Oaks Golf Course.
The Bruins won the title with a 3-under par team total of 572 (280-292), 28 shots ahead of second-place Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The tournament was shortened to 36 holes due to inclement weather.
With the title, Bellevue earned an automatic berth into the NAIA National Championships on May 13-16 in Daytona Beach, Fla. It marked the third-consecutive appearance for the Bruins in the national tournament.
Hannon won his first-ever collegiate title, finishing the tournament at 3-under par 141 (69-72). Jose Vega placed second at 2-under 142 (69-73). Tomas Ovejero turned in an even-par total of 144 (72-72), which tied him for fourth place. Nicolas Herrera placed fifth at 1-over par 145 (70-75) and Nicolas Handal tied for ninth place at 150 (75-75).
Hannon, Vega, Ovejero and Herrera all earned first team all-conference honors while Handal was named to the second team.
