Wilson recognized as NSAA Defensive Player of the Week
BISMARCK, N.D. -- Bellevue University senior center Nigel Wilson (Tucson, Ariz.) has been named the North Star Athletic Association's Men's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the NSAA office on Monday.
Wilson led a BU defense that allowed just 66 and 56 points, respectively, in a pair of wins over the weekend while their opposition shot a combined 43% from the floor. He finished with three steals in Friday night's 77-66 win over Ozark Christian and followed up with five blocked shots and another steal in Saturday's 75-56 win over Nobel.
In addition, he averaged 6.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game on the week while also dishing out seven assists.
For the season Wilson averages 9.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game along with a team co-leading 17 assists. He leads the NSAA with 15 blocked shots for the nation's No. 3 scoring defense. As a team, BU is allowing just 59.3 points per game.
Bellevue travels to Columbia, Mo. this week for a pair of games at the Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic. The Bruins square off against Hannibal-LaGrange (2-4) tomorrow at 5 p.m. before finishing up with a 3 p.m. tip against host Columbia (4-2) on Wednesday.
