BELLEVUE, Neb. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced today that Bellevue University’s men’s basketball game versus No. 18 College of the Ozarks on Saturday, Jan. 15 has been selected as the NAIA Division II Game of the Week. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
BU has won of six of its last seven games and is currently 13-3 overall and ranked No. 9 in the latest NAIA II Coaches' Poll released on Jan. 10.
Eugene Bain leads BU in scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. He also leads the team with seven double-doubles and is second in the MCAC with a 55.4 field goal percentage. Also averaging in double figures is All-American Avery Tyler (11.0 ppg, 3.3 rpg and 3.2 apg) and Jelani Johnson (10.3 ppg, 3.9 apg and 1.5 spg). Ousseynou Diop also adds 8.2 ppg and 7.1 rpg and leads the team with 59 blocked shots which ranks second in NAIA Division II. Jeremy Cruise leads the squad with 32 made three-pointers.
No. 18 College of the Ozarks is currently 11-5 this season and are led by this week's MCAC Player of the Week, Mike Wiebe, who is second in the conference in scoring, averaging 21.6 points per game. Also averaging in double figures is Jared Howerton (16.9 ppg and 6.9 rpg). Weston Wiebe paces the squad with 47 assists.
The Bruins will play host to conference foe Haskell Indian Nations on Friday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m before the showdown with the Bobcats. Both MCAC contests this weekend will include free live stats and live audio and video.
