Haggerty named NACE Overwatch 2 All-Star

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University freshman Veronica Haggerty (Heber City, Utah) has been named to the NACE All-Star Second Team for Overwatch 2, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Esports.

Haggerty, who goes by the username Wicca when playing, is a support player for the Bruins. Her role includes healing, boosting damage, and providing vital utility. Her hero of choice is Mercy but also plays as Lucio, Brigitte, and Illari at times. She peaked at No. 1 on the leaderboards in her role, boasts and impressive 26% average accuracy, and is a consistent top competitor in both collegiate and professional play.

Of the honor, Haggerty said, "I feel honored that I was able to represent Bellevue by earning such an award. I'm really proud that I could bring the team and school this national recognition. I hope next time it's a NACE trophy!"

She credited her teammates for their successes over the course of her freshman season, saying, "our team all worked hard even if we didn't get quite as far as we wanted," adding that "being able to play in person (as opposed to remotely) with my teammates was awesome. The in-person element added a level of synergy that made competing fun, exciting, and better overall."

Across five competitions, BU's overwatch team posted a 41-16 record. The Bruins reached the playoff round in four of them. The season was highlighted by Bellevue battling out of the loser's bracket to win the University of Kentucky Bluegrass Showdown as well as a quarterfinal finish in the NACE League.
