Bruins announce signing of D1 transfer Zimmerer
OF Bryce Zimmerer (Creighton, Neb./South Dakota State) has signed a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall.
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of Bryce Zimmerer (Creighton, Neb./South Dakota State) to a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall.
Zimmerer, a 6-0, 190-pound outfielder, makes his way to Bellevue from South Dakota State University after a standout junior college career at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan. He started the first two games of the 2023 season for the Jackrabbits before suffering a season-ending injury.
In each of his three seasons at Butler, Zimmerer hit over .300 and posted an .842 OPS for his career. He hit a career-best .341 in 2021 to go with an OPS of .917 and 23 extra-base hits. A career .328 hitter, he tallied 61 stolen bases in 68 attempts and scored 114 runs.
Coach Monlux on Zimmerer:
"Bryce is a guy that we recruited out of Butler CC. He ended up signing with South Dakota State University for the 2023 season. Unfortunately for him, he got injured and had to take a medical redshirt last season. He decided to come back closer to home in Nebraska and we can't be more thrilled to be having him as a member of the Bruin baseball family. He is a left-handed hitting outfielder that can really run the bases. He was very good during his time at Butler CC and we expect him to come in and compete for time right away."
Zimmerer joins the previously announced Brady Toth (RHP, Boise, Idaho/Columbia Basin College), Jace Wessels (RHP, Clarkston, Wash./Columbia Basin College), Danny Spongberg (OF, Omaha, Neb./Southeast CC), Steven Elsner (1B/OF, San Francisco, Calif./College of Marin), Nick Johnstone (C, Brisbane, Australia/South Suburban College), Jayden Vinson (LHP, Portland, Ore./Mt. Hood CC), and Brody Burnette (RHP, Kansas City, Mo./Hesston College) in the Bruins' 2023 recruiting class.
Bellevue is coming off a 2023 season in which the program reached the Avista NAIA World Series for the 16th time in program history. During the campaign, the Bruins posted a 48-10 overall mark, going 25-3 in conference play while sweeping both the NSAA Regular-Season and Tournament titles. BU parlayed the league's lone automatic bid into the program's 25th NAIA National Tournament Appearance, hosting their fifth Opening Round at Don Roddy Field and defeating Oklahoma City in the Championship Game to reach the Avista NAIA World Series for the third time in four seasons.
