Kobayashi picks up NSAA Player of the Week Award
Kanta Kobayashi hit .591 with a 1.494 OPS and score 16 runs last week to pick up NSAA Player of the Week honors.
BISMARCK, N.D. -- Bellevue University student-athlete Kanta Kobayashi (Tokyo, Japan) has been recognized as the North Star Athletic Association's Baseball Player of the Week, as announced by the NSAA office on Monday afternoon.
Kobayashi continues to dazzle with the glove and, this past week, combined that with his best hitting week of the season. The leadoff man batted .591 and scored 16 runs as the Bruins racked up 92 runs in five games last week, including scoring a program-record 83 in a four-game sweep of Presentation.
The senior centerfielder posted four multi-hit games and scored at least two runs in all five games. He showed some power with three doubles, a home run, and nine RBI for an .864 slugging percentage that, when added to his .630 on-base percentage, produced a phenomenal 1.494 OPS of the week.
This season, Kobayashi leads the team with a .407 batting average, 61 base hits, 55 runs scored, and two triples, ranks second with 12 doubles and 12 stolen bases, and has put up a 1.073 OPS with 17 extra-base hits.
The Bruins have won seven-straight overall to now sit at 34-6 on the season and 19-1 in conference play. BU hits the road tomorrow for a 6 p.m. non-conference tilt at Morningside University (29-10) at MercyOne Field.
