LEWISTON, Idaho -- The No. 21 Bellevue University baseball team is seeded ninth and will open next week's Avista NAIA World Series against the eighth-seeded and No. 23-ranked Indiana Tech. on Friday, May 24 at 10:30 a.m. Central Time. The entire World Series schedule was released this afternoon via the NAIA's official website.
Bellevue swept their way through the Opening Round – Shreveport Bracket earlier this week. The third-seeded Bruins downed host LSU-Shreveport to open the tournament before knocking off York twice to claim one of the 10 World Series bids.
Bellevue (46-14) enters the World Series as the hottest team in the country. Winners of 26-straight, and 39 of 40 overall, the Bruins are averaging 11.3 runs per game and hitting .384 as a team while the pitching staff has put up a 2.92 ERA during their current run.
Indiana Tech. comes into the World Series riding a 10-game win streak with a 41-14-1 overall record. The Warriors won both the WHAC Regular-Season and Tournament Championships before sweeping their way through the Opening Round – Williamsburg Bracket.
Both Bellevue (7-0) and Indiana Tech. (8-0) are unbeaten in the postseason this season.
BU and Indiana Tech. have faced off in the World Series three other times with Indiana Tech. claiming wins in 1998 and 2000 and the Bruins picking up a 7-6 win in the most recent meeting, back in 2003.
The Bruins are making their 14th World Series Appearance and first since 2016. They won the 1995 title and finished as the runner up in 1997.
In their most recent appearance, Bellevue earned a third place finish, coming within a game of the Championship.
The winner of Friday's Bellevue-Indiana Tech. match-up will face top-seeded and No. 2-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday, May 25 at 5 p.m. Central Time. The loser plays an elimination game on Saturday, May 25 at 12:30 p.m. Central Time against the loser of the Faulkner-Georgia Gwinnett game.
For the 20th-consecutive season, the World Series will be held at Harris Field on the campus of Lewis-Clark State College.
