BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of Derek Brown (Maple Valley, Wash./Clark College/Tahoma HS) to a National Letter of Intent to continue his baseball and academic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall.
Browne comes to Bellevue from Clark College in Vancouver, Wash. Over the course of his two seasons with the Penguins Browne, a 6-2, 195-pound right-hander appeared in 37 games in relief. He owned an 8-2 record, with eight saves, and a 1.23 ERA to go along with 64 strikeouts in 66.0 innings of work over two seasons.
Browne picked up first team all-NWAC South Region and first team all-NWAC honors as a reliever this past season as he went 7-1 with a 0.90 ERA and struck out an impressive 50 batters in 39.2 innings (11.34 strikeouts per nine innings) while opponents batted just .175 against him.
Coach Monlux on Browne:
"Derek had an outstanding two-year career at Clark College. He was a mainstay out of their bullpen in 2017 and 2018. He is a big time competitor that has been battle tested at the end of ball games. Derek has outstanding command and also has the ability to strike people out. We expect Derek to be a major contributor to the Bruin pitching staff for the next two seasons."
Browne joins previously announced signees Hunter Jury (C; Davis, Calif.), Colton Walker (RHP; Goldendale, Wash.), Anthony Alvarado (LHP; Wapato, Wash.), and Cody Banks (3B; Duvall, Wash.) in the Bruins 2018 recruiting class.
Bellevue wrapped up the 2018 season with a 38-23 overall record (17-5 NSAA) and won their second North Star Tournament in the last three seasons. The Bruins earned their eighth-straight NAIA Opening Round bid and 21st NAIA National Tournament Appearance in the program's storied history.
