Bellevue tops Oklahoma Wesleyan, 3-2, 8-1

OMAHA, Neb. -- Lance Lutz went 5-for-6 with three RBIs to help lead the Bellevue University baseball team to a 3-2 and 8-1 doubleheader sweep over Oklahoma Wesleyan University Friday afternoon at Westgate Field in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
Bellevue improved to 28-14 and 9-1 in conference play while Oklahoma Wesleyan dropped to 25-18 and 4-6 in the MCAC.
The Bruins will continue their series against the Eagles tomorrow with 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
Game 1 - Bellevue 3, Oklahoma Wesleyan 2
Lutz' two-out two-run double in the eighth inning proved to be the difference as the Bruins came back from a 2-0 deficit to pull a 3-2 win in the opener.
OWU scored its only two runs in the fifth inning with RBI hits by Shane Elliott and Nick Palese off BU starter Kody McFarland.
The Bruins got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Lutz that scored Spencer Duggan who opened the inning with a double.
After a two-out fielding error by the Eagles' shortstop extended the eighth inning, Lutz followed a Brandon Thompson single with a double to left center that allowed Tanner Moore and Thompson to cross home plate to lift the Bruins to the 3-2 win.
Robert Carrasquillo picked up his first win of the season, pitching two scoreless innings in relief. Robert Greco earned his fourth save, allowing two hits before striking out the final two batters with the tying run on third. Dustin Phelps (5-3) took the loss for OWU, allowing three runs, one earned, in eight innings of work.

The Bruins scored a run in each of their final four innings to post an 8-1 win in the nightcap. Moore went 3-for-4 while Duggan added three RBIs to lead the offensive attack.
OWU struck early with run in the opening inning on a single to left field by Elliott.
BU answered back on Duggan's RBI single that scored Tylor Pavel who doubled to even the score at 1-1 after three innings.
The first three batters reached base in the fourth, fueled by Dustin Kerns' two-run RBI single to give the Bruins a 3-1 lead.
The Bruins took advantage of two OWU errors to score two runs on three hits in the fifth inning to open a four-run lead, 5-1.
BU added three more runs in the sixth highlighted by Duggan's third home run of the season and Pavel's second double of the game.
Michael Calderon struck out three batters and improved to 6-1 in the complete game five-hitter. Kellner dropped to 5-3 on the year allowing eight runs on 13 hits.
