BU completes series sweep with 2 wins over York

YORK, Neb. -- The Bellevue University baseball team completed a four-game series sweep over York College, defeating the Panthers 13-2 and 7-3 Saturday afternoon at Levitt Stadium.
Bellevue improved to 22-12 overall and 7-1 in the MCAC. York dropped to 20-14 on the season and 4-4 in league play.
Dusty Kerns had grand slams in both games to lead the Bruin offense.
Bellevue will head to Crete, Neb. on Monday (April 2) for a 4 p.m. single nine-inning contest at Doane College.
Game 1: Bellevue 13, York 2
Tanner Moore, Kerns and Ryan Knutz blasted home runs and the Bruins used the solid pitching of Josh Trejo to cruise to the 13-2 win in seven innings in the opener.
Moore finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Kerns also drove in four runs to lead with a third-inning grand slam.
Trejo scattered seven hits with one walk, while striking out seven batters in seven innings of work, improving to 3-5 on the season.
An RBI single by Moore in the top of the first gave the Bruins an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Panthers answered in the bottom of the first with an RBI double by Pat Burford, tying the game at 1-1.
Knutz belted his first homer of the season to help BU regain the lead at 2-1 in the top of the second. York tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the second, scoring on a wild pitch.
Kerns connected on a grand slam to highlight a five-run third inning as the Bruins surged ahead 7-2.
A two-run homer by Moore pushed the BU lead to 9-2 in the fourth.
Bellevue made it 13-2 in the sixth with RBI singles by Kelvin Nelson and Moore and a two-run single by Lance Lutz.

The game was scoreless until Kern's fourth-inning grand slam gave the Bruins a 4-0 lead. York got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run single by Wilfredo Rodriguez.
The Bruins added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh, scoring on a wild pitch and on an RBI single by Moore and an RBI double by Brandon Thompson.
York opened the bottom of the seventh with a solo homer by Isaac Obermiller. to close the gap to 7-3 before Bruin closer Robert Greco replaced starter Michael Calderon. Greco forced two fly outs and collected a strikeout to secure the win.
Calderon got the win, improving to 4-1 on the season, scattering seven hits while striking out three and walking three in six innings of work.
