Miller honored with Frontier Champion of Character Award
HELENA, Mont. -- Senior left-handed pitcher Kenji Miller (Shoreline, Wash.) has been selected as a 2026 Frontier Conference Champion of Character Award recipient for baseball, presented by WinWon Technologies. The conference office announced the honor following the conclusion of the Frontier Conference Tournament on May 3 in Dickinson, N.D., where the Bruins captured the postseason title.
The award is presented annually to a student-athlete who best represents the NAIA Champions of Character initiative and its five core values: integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership. Each conference head coach nominates a player who demonstrates these principles through their actions in competition, on campus, and within the community.
"Kenji has been a model student and a phenomenal representative of Bellevue University and our baseball program in his time as a Bruin," said head coach Duane Monlux. "He shows great personal accountability as a young man. He has a very strong work ethic and is never a student-athlete that we ever have to worry about on or off the field."
Miller has been a vital part of the Bellevue pitching staff this season, posting a 10-1 record with a team-high 98 strikeouts and a 4.45 ERA. His performance on the mound earned him first-team all-Frontier Conference honors and a spot on the Frontier Conference all-tournament team. Miller also distinguished himself in the classroom, earning recognition as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete and an academic all-conference selection.
The Bruins boast a 49-5 overall record and are ranked second in the latest NAIA national poll. Bellevue finished a perfect 24-0 in conference play to win the Frontier regular season title and established a program record with a 33-game winning streak during the season. The Bruins also captured the Frontier Conference Tournament title.
Bellevue is currently competing in the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round, playing an elimination contest against Nelson University, with the winner advancing to the championship game against Indiana University-Southeast.
The Champions of Character initiative aims to place the NAIA's five core values at the center of the student-athlete experience, helping participants find balance on and off the court. The program encourages student-athletes to value the right behaviors and uphold the NAIA's standard of being "The Right Way to Play."
