Rueth leads BU in sweep over Dakota Wesleyan
ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- Junior Caitlyn Rueth pounded a match-high 11 kills to lead the 19th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team (1-1) to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-21) sweep over Dakota Wesleyan University (0-2) Friday night in the Bruins' second match of the Red Raider Classic.
ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- Junior Caitlyn Rueth pounded a match-high 11 kills to lead the 19th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team (1-1) to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-21) sweep over Dakota Wesleyan University (0-2) Friday night in the Bruins' second match of the Red Raider Classic.
Junior libero Meghan Evans paced the Bruins defensively with 15 digs. Senior Jordan Broady tallied 32 assists and eight digs.
The Bruins hit .320 including 37 kills and held the Tigers to -.023 hitting. BU also recorded 10 blocks and registered 44 digs compared to just 19 for DWU.
BU never trailed and hit .478 with 15 kills en route to a 25-11 opening set win. Junior Courtney Hendricks paced the offense with five kills in the set.
With the Bruins leading 14-10 midway through the second set, BU ended the game on an 11-2 run to win, 25-12. Rueth pounded three kills and the Bruins took advantage of four attacking errors during the decisive run.
Facing a four-point deficit in the third stanza, the Bruins closed the game on an 11-3 run, including the final seven points, to pull out a 25-21 win.
The Bruins will wrap-up tournament action tomorrow with matches scheduled against Peru State College (9:00 a.m.) and Doane College (1:00 p.m.).
