The Bellevue University baseball program under head coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of 6-4 Canadian outfielder Chandler McLaren (Guelph, Ontario/Douglas College/Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute) to a letter of intent to continue his athletic and academic careers at BU beginning in the fall of 2012.
McLaren was a 29th round draft pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2009. He earned second team all-Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) honors at Douglas College in 2011 after batting .341 with 30 hits, five doubles, 19 RBIs, 14 runs scored, and a .459 on-base average.
"Chandler has a huge upside as a baseball player," said Monlux. "He was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 29th round of the 2009 MLB Draft. He is a big, strong kid that has the ability to drive the baseball. We are excited for him to be joining the Bruin baseball program. We expect him to have a very good two seasons for us here at Bellevue University."
McLaren joins earlier signees Sean Felt (Ralston, Neb./Reinhardt/Fort Scott CC/Ralston HS), Devin Ferguson (Lacey, Wash./Centralia/North Thurston HS), Nate Mullins (Snohomish, Wash./Everett CC/Snohomish HS), Brian Embery (Emporia, Kan./Wayland Baptist/Lower Columbia/Auburn HS) and Kyle Kinman (Omaha, Neb./Butler CC/Northwest HS) in the 2013 recruiting class.
The 2012 Bruins finished with a 40-21 overall record, winning the MCAC regular season with a 17-3 mark, advancing the NAIA National Tournament for the second-straight year.
