Bellevue University head softball coach Michala Cimino announced today the addition of local high school standout Madison Machacek (Bellevue, Neb./Bellevue West HS) to a letter of intent to continue her athletic and academic careers at BU beginning in the fall of 2019.
Machacek, the daughter of Mark Machacek and Erinn Machacek, was a four-year varsity letterwinner at Bellevue West High School under coach Laura Kratochvil, where she twice earned honorable mention Class A all-state honors. She batted .376 her senior season with 15 doubles, three triples, and 21 RBIs.
She set school records for career total bases (145), defensive putouts (430), and single-season doubles (15).
Machacek was named to the all-ITG team and was a two-time all-Metro Conference selection. She was also voted her team's offensive MVP and team captain during her senior campaign.
"We are super excited to have landed a big-time recruit out of our own backyard," said Cimino. "Madison is going to bring us a lot of versatility and power at the plate."
An excellent student, Machacek was a member of the all-academic team, the National Honor Society, MU Alpha Theta, and the Science National Honor Society.
Machacek played club softball for Nebraska Gold under coaches Larry Swift and Chad Perkins, helping her team to a No. 29 national ranking.
Machacek becomes the third signee in the 2019-20 signing class, joining earlier signees, Madi Geary (Omaha, Neb./Millard South HS) and Cory Carrillo (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park HS).
The Bruins will open the 2019 season at the Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth, Texas on Feb. 8-9.
