Bruin head volleyball coach Trish Siedlik announced today the signing of Addison Smith (Papillion, Neb./Papillion-LaVista HS) to a letter on intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Bellevue University beginning in the fall of 2013.
Smith, a 5-7 libero/setter, is the daughter of Kevin and Chastidy Smith. She was a four-year letterwinner under coach Kristen Lebeda Svehla at Papillion-LaVista High School, while also lettering in track and field.
"Addison is a wonderful young lady and we are very excited to have her join the Bruin volleyball program," said Siedlik. "She comes from a strong ball control oriented program led by Kristen Lebeda-Svehla, my former teammate (at College of St. Mary) and assistant coach. I know that Addison is going to be familiar with a lot of our techniques and systems."
Smith helped lead PLHS to the 2012 Nebraska State Tournament and was second on the team in assists and service aces. She was chosen to be a part of USA Volleyball's High Performance program and competed in the High Performance Championships in Tucson, Ariz. in the summer of 2011.
"We are also very happy to have another local standout stick around the area and have her family be a part of it," added Siedlik.
Smith played club volleyball for both Nebraska Elite under Laurel Derry and Premier Volleyball under Rick Welch. She was named Elite's most improved 16's player in 2011.
An excellent student, Smith was a member of the National Honor Society and was selected to PLHS's Honor Roll.
Smith joins earlier signee Bridgette Baden (Hebron, Neb./Thayer Central HS) in the 2013 recruiting class.
The Bruins (35-9/13-0 MCAC) will travel to Sioux City, Iowa on Nov. 27-Dec. 1 to compete in their sixth-straight NAIA Volleyball National Championship at the Gateway Arena/Tyson Events Center.
