DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team fell to No. 16 Graceland University 3-2 in the Bruins' season-opener at the Grand View Classic on Saturday.
After a scoreless first half, Gisela Arrieta netted the games' first goal at 54:00 off a pass from Leslie Carroll. Bellevue tied up the match with an unassited goal by senior Paige Wischmann in the 59th minute.
Arrieta scored her second goal at 70:03 to give GU a 2-1 advantage. Shannon Scarlett helped the Yellowjackets pull away with a goal in the 85th minute. Jenica Bloom helped the Bruins fight back, scoring off a pass from Mercy Darkoah with just over one minute remaining to make the final 3-2.
Caitlin Stier collected three saves in the loss while Stefany Cardozo recorded five for GU.
The Bruins will play Robert Morris University at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow.
