Bellevue University head softball coach Michala Cimino announced today the signing of local high school standout Courtney Schendt (Papillion, Neb./Papillion-LaVista South High School) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall of 2013.
Schendt, the daughter of Pamela Roland and John Schendt, was a 2012 Class A all-state and Super State selection at Papillion-LaVista South High School under head coach Dan Hogan. She led the Titans to a runner-up finish at the 2012 Nebraska State Tournament while batting .495 with 14 home runs, 15 doubles and state-record 62 RBIs during her senior campaign. Schendt helped anchor a PLSHS offense that set a state single-season record with 45 home runs.
The Titans' most valuable player in 2012, Schendt was a two-time all-conference outfielder as well as an honorable mention all-state selection in 2011.
She played club softball for Omaha Quakes (2012-13) and Omaha Sizzle (2011-12).
Schendt joins early signees Kaitlyn Goney (Omaha, Neb./Millard South HS), Katy Shupe (Ralston, Neb./Ralston HS), and Sydney Robertson (Omaha, Neb./Millard South HS) in the 2013-14 recruiting class.
The Bruins finished the 2012 season with a 44-16 overall record and a 13-1 league mark, claiming a share of the MCAC regular season title with No. 4-ranked Central Baptist College. As a team, BU shattered the school record for home runs in a season with 70.
